Older Adults

[top]

What is your biggest fear about getting old? For some it may be falling over. For me, it would be the retirement home, because at that point I'd know the battle for my own independence has been lost.

If left to it's own devices, from the age of 25 our bodies go down hill. We loose muscle mass, body density, and brain cells. Doing the cross words will help maintain 'the gray matter', but what about the rest?

Well it's good news for those who don't mind a little hard work. Exercise performed at the right intensity can not only slow the rot but also reverse it!

No I can't make you immortal!!! Sorry. I can increase you muscle mass to a more optimum level. (Maintaining muscle mass has been shown to reduce serious falls in the elderly by up a 42%).

Vibration Training

By including Power-Plate® in your routine, I can maintain your bone density and in some cases reverse it taking you out of the danger zone of osteoporosis.

I can help you maintain a functional level of fitness so you can walk down the road to the shop, then put the tins on the shelf. You can get in and out of the bath by yourself.

Let me help you maintain your independence. It's not too late!

Performance

[top]

Are you looking for the competitive edge? Do you want to be faster? Turn sharper? And stop quicker than your opponents?

ActiveNRG can give you the edge!

By combining core stability, muscular strength and power through a multi-directional exercise routine, I can make you faster and more agile, plus I’ll reduce your risk of non-contact injury.

Routines are periodised to prevent overuse injury and can be synchronized with competitive events in your calendar. This will ensure you’re in your best competitive shape on the day.

If you're none-competitive this increased performance can still have major benefits. Most people require greater speed and reaction time, over strength to carry out their normal daily tasks. Performance and reactive training can give you that. For the elderly this may be the difference between a bad fall and a near miss. For the young it may be jumping up high enough to see what’s on top of the cupboard.

Posture

[top]

Are your shoulders rounding, from being bent over the computer or desk all day? Do you get backache or the occasional neck twinge after being seated for prolonged periods?

Repetition and prolonged periods in seated positions are two of the main causes of bad posture. So if you’re office or vehicle bound for most of your day you can expect to have some form of postural misalignment.

There is something that can be done however, with a postural analysis I can determine which muscles are becoming short and tight and which are becoming long and weak.

I can then devise a correctional strategy to counter the effects. With a combination of targeted flexibility, isolated strengthening through well executed exercise and then total body integration the muscles in improved position can be realigned.

This works because any action carried out closer to the perfect line of movement will improve your posture and anything further away from the perfect line will defer from it.

Pre & Post Natal

Congratulations. Whether it's your first or last babe, stay or getting fit for pregnancy can be a tough business, Can a do this should I do that? Whether you are currently training or not exercise can help prepare you for the changes your body is about to go through, limiting the discomfot and fatigue and hassen your return to shape afterwards. IT WILL NOT however garanty an easy delivery, SORRY!

Sports specific

Want to be fit for your sport?

To many people today think playing some form of sport is enough to maintain all round fitness! Wrong! Playing a sport you’re not fit for is setting yourself up for a fall. The best-case scenario is you don’t produce the goods to your full potential, at the other end of the spectrum a serious injury could be looming like a Anterior Crusate Ligament (ACL) injury from lack of core stability while turning. Remember Owens knee while playing for England!

I’ll ask again. Do you want to be fit for your sport?
I know my answer!

Weight management

[top]

So you want to lose a bit of fat? Who doesn’t?

If you’re like most of us you know the basics of a healthy life style and what to do to lose weight, you just need a friendly push and a bit of guidance to go and do it.

They are many places that offer diet advice. A few to be wary of are: --
Very low calorie diets.
These will strip muscle and fat away lowering your body’s metabolism. These diets are very hard, if not impossible, to maintain long term, and when you come off them the reduced metabolism will mean you pile on the pounds again, all in the form of fat and you will find it even harder to lose the next time.

Very high protein diets.
There is some evidence that an increase in protein consumption while dieting can promote fat loss, as some excess protein is simply excreted from the body. However, if taken too far, the reduction of carbohydrate will at the best leave you tired and lethargic, at worse the excess protein will pollute and block vital organs leaving you with liver or kidney failure.
Much of the success of diets such as these has been seen in the early weeks of the diet. This success has been shown to be mainly water loss from glycogen (blood and muscle sugar) depletion.

Let me just say, I am not a dietician or nutritionist. I do hold a certificate in optimal & sports nutrition so I can guide you towards a healthy and successful weight loss plan.

All successful long-term weight loss plans use a balance of exercise and healthy eating to achieve their goal.

Young adults

[top]

Children between the age of approximately 12 and 16 are still growing at a very fast rate, and although much of their physical attributes are similar to those of an older adult, one key area is not!

The growth line at each end of a young adult’s bones are not fully formed and hardened as they are in a fully-grown adult. Under heavy load these growth lines can slip to one side or the other permanently deforming the bone growth.

Heavy weight lifting is not generally recommended for young adults, however body weight exercises can be used to achieve great success in posture and muscle tone within this age group.

Adequate flexibility is also important for young adults, as growth spurts, in which bone growth accelerates faster than the muscle lengthening are commonplace.

Breakfast Fit Club

[top]

A 30-45 minute pulse raiser to get the children's energy focused on the day ahead. These sessions include ladders, cones and other agility exercises, to get the children thinking about how they move.

The children are encouraged to perform various skills over the given obstacles first as individuals and then as a team. During the close of the session children are encouraged to express themselves in group activities such as tig, foot ball and other games.

Lunch Fit Club

[top]

This is a light activity class that uses balance skills to help posture and concentration. The aim of these sessions is to improve the postural muscles commonly subject to under use during the school day. These include the inner core middle back and gluts. This is done with a combination of single leg balance exercises and floor core exercise, and concluded with relaxation. It has been shown that good posture can increase concentration and reduce stress levels.

After School Fit Club

[top]

Fun class that uses group sport activities to end the child's day on a high, and build a team spirit and sense of belonging to the school.

This class involves team activities and sports aimed at encouraging the children to work together.

Holiday Fit Club

[top]

Extra sporting activity over the half term and summer breaks. It can be organised in conjunction with other events or as a separate activity. This is a completely bespoke activity and will be organised around the school or zone requirements.

PPA Cover

[top] Sport specific or general fitness (as required) to meet the school's needs. Routines can be designed and put together around the schools P. E. curriculum as required. This is not however sports coaching, but works on improving the fitness and skills required in any particular sport.
